\faqs

Freaquently asked questions about the Gizmondo. Please mail any additional questions you have to gizard@escapism.co.uk.

Business (rev: 18/05/08)

q. Is the Gizmondo still available?

a. Not officially, no.

q. Why?

a. Tiger Telemetrics, the company behind the Gizmondo, filed for bankruptcy in early 2006.

q. Why?.

a. Many reasons. Mostly due to mismanagement. See wikipedia/gizmondo#bankruptcy for more information.

q. Didn't I hear that some guy from Gizmondo was going to bring it back?

Former managing director Carl Freer claimed in a september 2007 interview that he had plans to put the Gizmondo back into production in 2008. This was met with a great deal of skepticism, not least from some of the software companies burnt the first time around and wether anything comes of it remains to be seen.

q. Can I still buy a Gizmondo unnofficially?

a. Yes. You can buy most things your heart desires on eBay and the like.

Tech (rev: 18/05/08)

q. How can I sync my gizmondo via Windows XP?

a. Using Microsoft Activesync.

q. How can I sync my Gizmondo using other platforms such as Mac OSX or Linux or older versions of Microsoft Windows?

a. You can't, unless someone writes some drivers. Which, as of writing, they haven't. (03/02/2007)

q. I've lost my Internet Explorer Scrollbar? Please Help.

a. This may be related to the Registry setting for it being corrupted somehow. This .reg file will change the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
Software\
Microsoft\
Internet Explorer\
Main\
Scrollbar
entry to 1 (yes).

q. I've heard tell of something called a "hard reset". I know you can force the gizmondo to reset by holding down the home and power buttons for ten seconds and it's called a "soft reset", but what is this "hard reset"? What does it do?

a. A "hard reset" will reset the Gizmondo back to it's factory defaults, erasing any installations or corrupted software or files saved on it. It's very much considered the last desparate act to rescue a schafted device. You perform it by holding down LButton + Volume + Power while the device is switched off. After a while the Gizmondo will start and bring up a confirmation screen.

Think carefully before proceeding and make sure you have copied anything on your Gizmondo Flash Disk you wish to keep onto an SD card first.

Site (rev: 18/05/08)

Who runs this website?

Some guy.

Why is this website so minimal?

It was designed to be viewed on the Gizmondo itself. It's a bit of a gimmick, as few people will be viewing websites on the Gizmondo. Without wifi or cheap internet access the charges for GPRS web access make casual browing prohibitive, and viewing websites in the Gizmondo while it's connected to the net via a USB cable plugged into PC... well it's just pointless.

Why do you have adverts? Do you want to make money from the Gizmondo users that visit your site?

Of course I do. I don't know if you realise, but websites cost money. Especially if you draw any traffic. Nothing is free in this life kid. Bills need to be paid. I'd love to run this site for free, but that's not happening. It's only a googlead and it's not very intrusive.

ery intrusive.

Now please click on the link like a good little consumer and do your bit to support the honest ideal of capitalism. You know you want to...
