\soft

There has been little in the way of commercial software available for the Gizmondo. On its release it had approximately eight games available and the co-pilot GPS software. These are now all off the market and can only be found in rare occassions in some online stores and eBay. Some of the software has been available illegally via other websites. They won't be here.

Despite this meagre commercial offering, a wealth of additional software has been made available via the wider Gizmondo community. Some of this software was written specifically for the platform its members. The rest has been hacked to fit. Many of these files require working access to the Windows CE desktop or at least a mouse-pointer application. They almost all universally require your Gizmondo to have the latest version of Gizmondo Service Pack B installed. None of it is guaranteed to work, but it should.

Feel free to suggest additional software to be listed here, or email updates

\frontends (rev: 08/06/08)

Gizmondo Launcher AKA Firefly's Launcher

Basic Launcher that was discovered on a demo card.

Launcher AKA Otaku's Launcher

Another Launcher, originally released to the public by Otaku

Fathammer Launcher AKA Zektor's Launcher

Discovered by Zektor of Gizmondo Forums on a Fathammer demo card.

GizMenu port by sweetlilmre, based on Gmenu2x by Massimilano "Ryo" Torromeo

A wonderful new frontend for the Gizmondo, based on Gmenu2x for the GP2x. Install to the root of an SD card, tailor the config to suit and autorun.

\emulators (rev: 08/06/08)

DrMD by Reesy
Next to perfect Sega emulator. Supports the three main early 90s Sega consoles: The Master System, The Game Gear and the MegaDrive/Genesis

DrPocketSNES PocketSNES port by Reesy
Next to perfect Super Nintendo emulator.

GizBoy GnuBoy port by Critical
Almost perfect Nintendo Gameboy emulator. Emulates classic Gameboy and Gameboy Colo(u)r.

Grodo Frodo port by Sweetlilmre
A version of the classic Commodore 64 emulator. Has sound and keyboard emulation and works very well.

UAE4all (UAE4ALL port by Critial)
The ubiquitous Amiga emulator is available on the Giz. I'd estimate that 80% of ADF's work quite well with this.

\games (rev: 08/06/08)

Doom Legacy (port by TheReaper)
Updated Doom engine. Plays Doom, Doom II and Heretic along with additional custom wads. Requires original commerical or demo .wad files to run. Shareware demos are available on Doomworld.

Duke Nukem 3D (port by TheReaper)
Like the Doom engine, this requires the files from the original Duke Nukem 3D Pc game to run. Shareware files will do.

Quake (port by XChip)
Version of the Quake engine for the Gizmondo. Required the Quake datafiles from the PC version to run. The original MSDOS demo is still available to download from the ID Software website.

Tecnoballz (port by sweetlilmre)
Stylish and feature packed breakout type game. Version on the forum requires files from the orginal source package here (tecnoballz.tgz) to run. As it's released under the GPL I may repackage this later as an all-in-one download if there is demand.

\media players (rev: 08/06/08)

The Core Media Player (port by TheReaper)
General media player.

µBook (by Gowerpoint)
eBook reader that will display html, rtf, txt files including any associated images, in directories or archives. (Shareware).

Mortplayer (port by TFGBH & haggisbasheruk)
Audio player intended for GPS units and touchscreen. Has a pseudo-car CD changer mode. Nice player but a bit sluggish. Skinnable and uses GSpLayer plug-ins.

PocketCBZ (Gizmondo ready version featuring NET 2.0 by TheReaper)
Reader for CBZ's (zipped comic books). Reading scanned comic book pages on the small Gizmondo display is hard on the eyes in my opinion. Dosn't currently have support built-in for CBR's (Rarred Comic Books) but a separate Windows application on the authors homepage will convert CBR's to CBZ.

\networking (rev: 08/06/08)

PocketPuTTY a port of Simon Tatham's PuTTY by Masaki Saeki
PocketPC version of the popular Terminal/rlogin/SSH client.

nPOP by Nakashima Tomoaki
Minimal POP3 email client, supports basic email functions, some server management stuff and SMTP and SSL. Naturally requires working Windows CE desktop access on the Gizmondo and working software keyboard as well as an internet connection, either through GPRS, WAP or Activesync.

\windows ce (rev: 08/06/08)

cke by Kubilai Solutions
A general purpose text editor. Larger and more advanced than PocketNotepad (below) however considering to edit text on the Gizmondo you need to use a software keyboard on a 3" wide screen it is unlikely you will be doing much advanced editing.

Haali Reader by Mike Matsnev
eBook reader, displays plain text and xml ebooks. Can be used as a general text-reader.

PocketNotepad by Tillanosoft
Faithful Microsoft Windows Notepad clone. Simple and effective.

SmallTweak by Tillanosoft
Excellent piece of software based on Microsoft's TweakUI, that ca be used to tweak various bits of the Windows CE setup without directly editing the registry.

\drivers (rev: 08/06/08)

Gizmondo device drivers
For Microsoft Windows XP.

\manuals (rev: 08/06/08)

Gizmondo Owners Manual by Gizmondo
This is the PDF of the original Gizmondo manual. Just incase you dog ate yours...

\sync (rev: 08/06/08)

Activesync by Microsoft
The only known software solution for directly accessing the Gizmondo from a PC.

Remote Display by Microsoft
Part of the PocketPC Powertoys suite. Opens up an interactive copy of the Gizmondo display in a WinXP Desktop window. Requires Activesync.
