- Computers / Acheron -
Circa: 2005 - 2007
Bit of a nostalgia beast this one. Built using the case and many parts from my first ever PC which had been lying gathering dust for years. Called Acheron following in my hellish naming conventions after the great eternal battlefield from D&D mythology (as well as the river over which in Greek mythology the Ferryman took the dead to Hades). Seems to be a constant fight with this computer so far. Runs at the speed of light, were light a substance akin to Ketchup that has been left untouched in the fridge all winter.
Originally intended as a basic Windows machine for last minute email at night and maybe some bedroom TV/DVD watching but I ended up using it as a sandbox machine for Ubuntu Linux which I have since installed as my main Os on Baator. I installed Windows 95 on it shortly after aquiring a copy of Starship Titanic with the intention of using Acheron as a retro Windows gaming machine but lost interest in the whole project after aquiring a girlfriend instead.
Since then Acheron has largely been cannibalised for spares and largely sold or reused elsewhere. It may be ressurected again at some point should i want another sand-box machine. I've always considered taking FreeBSD for a test-drive...
